Our Firm

Our Diversity Mission

To foster an inclusive workplace culture that values different perspectives, creates engagement, promotes creativity, and fuels innovative thinking.

A vital source of strength

Carmody believes that employing people of diverse, eclectic backgrounds and perspectives maximizes our potential for success, and creates a vibrant, creative and productive workplace. We are committed to attracting and retaining outstanding, well-rounded lawyers by nurturing an atmosphere where attorneys from all backgrounds can flourish based on their talent, knowledge, passion and dedication.

Part of our very fabric

Because diversity is integral to who we are, it is a key component of our strategic plan. The firm’s diversity efforts are led by our managing partner and practice group leaders, and are supported by our human resources professional staff.

Diversity in action

We believe actions speak louder than mission statements. At Carmody, diversity is more than staffing quotas. It is part of our everyday life.

  • Carmody was the first major law firm in Connecticut to elect a woman, Ann H. Rubin, as its managing partner.
  • Carmody is a founding member of the Connecticut Lawyer’s Group (now known as the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity), a consortium of law firms and corporate and government law departments dedicated to increasing opportunities for minorities in the legal profession.
  • Carmody partner Maureen D. Cox was a recipient of the 2013 Ladder Award, presented by the Connecticut Bar Associations Women in the Law Committee of the Young Lawyers Section to honor a female attorney who has demonstrated exceptional leadership affecting women
  • In recognition of our outstanding gender equity policies, the Connecticut Bar Association named our firm as the first recipient of its Sue L. Wise Gender Equity in the Profession Award. In announcing its decision, the Connecticut Bar Association praised in particular the firm’s written employment policies, childcare subsidy, dependent care flexible spending accounts and the firm’s large percentage of female partners.
  • Carmody partner Thomas R. Candrick, Jr. is the Board President of the International Association of New Haven (IANH), a charitable foundation that provides grants to organizations that further international understanding within the greater New Haven community.
