Carmody and Torrance Attorney Inducted into the University of Connecticut

May 12, 2011
Carmody & Torrance proudly announces that attorney Marianne Barbino Dubuque has earned an MBA from the University of Connecticut and has been inducted into the UCONN School of Business Hall of Fame as a Student Fellow. Only 13 Student Fellows, including those in undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, were inducted based on excellence in academics, community involvement and business. Marianne graduated with a 4.088 GPA.

Marianne is a partner of the firm and practices land use and general real estate law. She primarily handles siting and permitting of energy facilities and telecommunications leases. She is active in her Waterbury community, supporting organizations such as the United Way, the Girls Club, and the Connecticut Community Foundation Women’s Initiative Fund.

Asked how she was able to balance her course work with a law career and her many other activities, Marianne says, “I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy. It took a lot of planning, scheduling, late nights and early mornings. But I always wanted to do it, so I did it.”

Marianne accepted the Student Fellow award during a ceremony on April 30th which also honored distinguished faculty and alumni, including William S. Simon, Jr., President and CEO of Walmart U.S., and Lauralee Martin, CFO and COO of Jones Lang LaSalle.

Another Goal Checked Off the List
Five years ago, Marianne began setting goals and has worked tirelessly to achieve them, one by one. In 2006 she decided to train for a marathon, and in January of 2007 she ran the Disney Marathon in Orlando. In 2007, she set her goal of an MBA – a goal she had since law school – and steadily took courses over four years to complete the program. In the meantime, she learned how to play piano in 2008, completed a sprint triathlon in 2009, and ran several half marathons in 2010. Next up? “Skydiving,” Marianne says with a smile.
