Chief United States District Judge Stefan R. Underhill has appointed Carmody Partner Gary Klein to serve on the Merit Selection Panel to assist with selecting the next United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Connecticut. The Panel will review applications to fill the position that United States District Judge Sarah A.L. Merriam recently vacated. Within ninety days of appointment, the Merit Selection Panel must present five candidates to the Court for final consideration. The Court will then choose the new magistrate judge from the five candidates the Merit Selection Panel delivered.

Gary has extensive trial experience in complex financial, commercial, employment and environmental litigation. Gary also has extensive experience representing fund managers, hedge funds, private equity funds, and placement agents in all types of complex disputes. Gary has tried many cases to verdict in federal and state courts involving all kinds of complex business disputes and environmental claims, including cases involving real estate and business valuation, lender liability, business torts, fund managers, placement agents, and covenants not to compete. Gary also has significant experience in complicated ADR proceedings including multi-party and international business arbitrations in the commercial, financial, and securities fields and is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s panel of arbitrators.
