It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our dear friend and partner Maureen Danehy Cox.
Maureen was an integral part of Carmody: a brilliant trial lawyer, a patient and dedicated mentor to so many, and above all a kind, funny and cherished friend.
Maureen joined Carmody in 1980 after receiving her J.D. with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law and her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Maureen’s practice focused on commercial and tort litigation representing a wide range of companies in a broad array of cases before state and federal courts throughout the United States. Maureen became a partner in 1987.
Among her many honors, Maureen was awarded the Connecticut Bar Association’s Ladder Award in 2013. This award honors a Connecticut woman attorney who has “left the ladder down” for women to follow in her footsteps, and who values the importance of leadership development, mentoring and supporting junior lawyers in their journeys to success. Maureen perfectly exemplified these qualities, and they were the hallmark of her career at Carmody.
Maureen was a true trailblazer in our field. She was one of only three Connecticut women selected for the First Edition of the Top 250 Women in Litigation published by Benchmark Litigation. She was the first woman president of the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association and the first woman in the country to be elected president of a state chapter.
For her wit and wisdom, her lifelong commitment to mentoring and her friendship to so many, Maureen will be greatly missed. The entire Carmody family extends its deepest sympathy to Maureen’s family and friends.
